ладно...давай по-английски...
altero: i said ages ago that garage used to be in the charts etc. like...heartless crew got to number 5, pay as you go got pretty high, so solid always sold loads of tunes, blazing squad etc etc. but tha t was about a year ago. there hasnt been a garage tune in the top20 for ages. but what is popular over here is normally tunes with loads of mcs on like the stuff i just mentioned. like...heres the charts for this week:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/top40/index.shtml r'n'b has taken it over i guess. at the end of the day it doesnt mean shit. but its important to remember that in england the difference between 'underground'; and 'commercial'/'mainstream' garage is non-exisitant. the 'underground' will become 'commercial', just a year after it first comes out. so all my mates who fucking moan about how garage is just shitty pop music are talking a load of fucking bullshit. its just not clearly defined.
even romeo from so solid has made a r'n'b tune at number 16. theres no garage there and hasnt been for a while. but 2 years ago every week ther'd be a new one in the charts. up and down the country you'd hear so solid or daniel bedingfield.
in terms of the first 2 step tune to be successful, it was 'rewind' by the artful dodger. this was at number 1 for ages and after that everyone was loving garage. mind you, speed garage had always been really popular: tina morre, double 99, phats and small etc etc.
to sniper: when are you coming to the uk? renat texted me to say he was coming over at the end of november. i'm pretty busy at the moment but it would be wicked to meet up. give us some details. email me: ambrosewhite@yahoo.com
